The CBT Triangle

The CBT (Cognitive Behaivoural Theraphy) triangle can be used as a tool to understand how our cognitive schemas work—in other words, it helps us understand our thought patterns and our reactions to them.

We are often guided by automatic thoughts, behaviors, and emotions that arise without us being fully aware of them. This exercise gives you insight into how your automatic reactions function, so you can begin to adjust them where needed.

The exercise involves writing down a chain of reactions during a specific situation: note in sequence what triggered the reaction (a thought, feeling, or action) and what followed. You can start at any point and move in any direction.

To get the most out of the worksheets, we recommend using them alongside therapy sessions. Book a session here!
