A small nudge from thinking to doing

Stuck on the sofa? Scrolling instead of starting? Or thinking so much about what you should be doing that nothing actually gets done?

The Procrastination Dice is a simple everyday tool inspired by psychology, designed for those moments when you need to stop overthinking and start doing.

The idea is simple: roll the dice and immediately do what the symbol tells you to do. No negotiating, no searching for the perfect choice, and no “I’ll do it later”. Let the dice decide for you.

The six sides offer simple activities that help interrupt the pattern and create movement: move your body, tidy or organise, connect with a friend, make something, read, or put your phone away for two hours.

Break the pattern – one small step at a time

Procrastination is not always about not knowing what to do. Sometimes we get caught in resistance, avoidance, overthinking or waiting until we feel ready.

By letting the dice make one small decision for you, the next step becomes simple:

  • Do what you roll - The goal isn’t maximum productivity or doing everything perfectly. The dice acts as a small nudge that encourages you to practise the transition from thinking to doing.

  • One roll at a time - One small action at a time. New habits are built step by step.

How to use the dice

When you notice yourself putting something off, scrolling, feeling stuck or simply not getting started:

1. Roll the dice -  Let chance decide.

2. Look at the symbol - No rerolling because you prefer another option.

3. Do it straight away - Start before your brain has time to come up with another reason to wait.

4. Use it again the next time you get stuck - The dice isn’t there to do the work for you. It’s there to help you practise getting into action.

The six symbols (can be interpretated in a way that suites you)

  • Move your body – Go for a walk, stretch, exercise or simply get your body moving for a while.

  • Tidy · organise · put things away – Choose one small area and create a little order around you.

  • Call or message a friend – Reach out to someone you like. Even a simple hello counts.

  • Make or build something – Draw, fix, craft, paint, build or do something with your hands.

  • Read – Put the screen aside and read a few pages of a book, magazine or something you have consciously chosen.

  • 2-hour phone break – Put your phone somewhere out of sight and give your attention a break from notifications and scrolling.

A different kind of procrastination help!  Not another to-do list.
Not another system that requires more planning.

Just a physical reminder that sometimes the best way to interrupt a pattern is to stop thinking about the next step and take one.
